What is the difference between Samhain and Halloween?
While Halloween does have roots in Samhain, they are not the same thing. Samhain is still celebrated today by various groups including Wiccans and there are many ways in which the festival is celebrated. Halloween, or All Hallow's Eve, is celebrated in much the same way as Samhain with costumes, celebrations, and more.
How long does Samhain last?
Cattle were sacrificed, and participants took a flame from the communal bonfire back to their home to relight the hearth. Early texts present Samhain as a mandatory celebration lasting three days and three nights where the community was required to show themselves to local kings or chieftains.
