Is it bad to cover a candle?
Extinguishing a candle by putting on a non-flammable lid will work and is safe, but I do not recommend it because it traps the smoke inside once the flame is snuffed out. That smoky smell does mix with the freshly melted wax, which can impact the scent when you decide to light your candle again.
Why do Yankee candles go black?
Candle glass turns black due to the accumulation of soot. A longer wick and a larger flame means that more wax will be melted, which gives the candles more fuel. This increased fuel can result in incomplete combustion, which leads to soot. An uneven burn can also create soot. Where does the wax go when you burn a candle? When candles burn, most of their matter goes into the air. The light and heat from a candle comes from the wax burning. When you light the wick, the flame causes some of the wax to melt, flow up the wick and evaporate, and then the wax vapor burns.
What happens if I cut my candle's wick too short?
Burning a candle without trimming the wick between uses could cause a dangerously large flame. It also increases the amount of soot that forms when the candle burns. That's why you should always examine the wick length and trim it if necessary before lighting the candle. Subsequently, do candle wicks need to be waxed? Unlike loose (unwaxed) wick, pre-waxing will keep the wick upright and maintain fuel delivery and consistent tension throughout the burn. The amount of wax used on a wick is negligible, so we would recommend using pre-waxed wick assemblies, even if you are making natural wax candles.
How do you ruin a candle?
If you only light the candle for a short amount of time and a small puddle of wax forms your candle is essentially ruined. RUINED. Because it will never burn to the edge ? and that is a waste and a great shame.
