Why is there a dip in my candle?
Wax sinks when it sets because as the wax cools, it slowly contracts and can leave what I refer to as 'sink holes' in the middle of your candles, but can also present as sunken dips around the wick.
Why do my candle wicks mushroom?
If you've ever had a candle with a black cap on the end, or what looks like a mushroom cap, it means your candle wick is mushrooming. In essence, the ratio of wax to wick is off. The buildup of excess materials left from not burning correctly is the cap of carbon particles you see, otherwise known as a mushroom wick. Consequently, why is my yankee candle flame so high? If you find that your candle flames are burning too high, there are two potential causes. One potential cause is that the wick is too "thick" - a decision by the manufacturer you can't do much about. The other potential, and more common, cause is that the wick is too long and needs to be trimmed.
What is the smoke from a candle called?
The smoke was nowhere to be seen when the candle was actually burning, so where does this smoke suddenly come from? Interestingly, the smoke you see when you blow out a candle is not actually 'smoke'; it's vaporized paraffin wax. Also, do beeswax candles produce smoke? Beeswax candles are clean burning, with virtually no smoke or soot.
What happens if you trap smoke in a candle?
It will extinguish the flame, BUT, it also will cause a lot of stinky black smoke. The black smoke will permeate the melted wax that has all of that lovely fragrance. The next time you light the candle it will smell bad. The wick will pop right back and be ready to light. You can also ask why should you only burn candles for 3 hours? If you burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time, carbon will collect on the wick, and your wick will begin to "mushroom." This can cause the wick to become unstable, the flame to get too large, your candle to smoke, and soot to be released into the air and around your candle container.
